YUCA’S HUT

OUR PURPOSE

To bring Los Angeles the true taste of Mexican food, one bite at a time

WHY WE DO IT

There is joy in bringing the flavor of Mexico to people, but the main reason I’ve continued to run our family business is the connection to the community that having a restaurant has provided. There is nothing like sharing a meal across from someone – it opens up the heart, and leads to many beautiful possibilities.

MY STORY

YUCA’S opened its doors on April 1, 1976, with the dreams of Socorro Herrera – to provide a gathering place to enjoy delicious Mexican food. It didn’t take long for people to discover Mama (as she quickly became known) and spread the word. YUCA’S soon became the go-to hangout place. After over four decades of slinging tacos, we are happy to still be hosts for community gatherings and to continue to receive accolades for our food from all over the world.

WHY WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

L.A. is eclectic and vibrant. Here, you can experience cuisines from all over the world, play on the beach one day, and ski the mountains or trek the desert the next. We are lucky to have a climate that allows us year-round opportunities, and a citizenry that works towards safeguarding nature for ourselves, and generations to come.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE WE FACED

My parents spoke very little English when they launched their dream. That made it difficult to navigate the necessary bureaucracy and to communicate with their customers. They persisted because the American Dream was within their grasp, and they did not know the words, ‘unattainable’ or ‘impossible’. Their love of people and loving hearts helped them to overcome every obstacle placed in their path.
