“I'm from south central. Our business is located “I'm from south central. Our business is located here, and the people who work here are from here. We're part of the local economy. We're proud of that.”Guadalupe Tlatenchi (Lupe) founder of @gtla_apparel
*
Lupe grew up in South Central LA, and always wanted to be a designer. Her grandmother, a worker in the Los Angeles fashion district, was the one who taught her how to sew. While Lupe was enrolled at @FIDM, she landed a job in a small manufacturing shop that opened her eyes to how many unethical practices and sustainability issues come with traditional textile manufacturing.
*
Thanks to our partnership programs @grid110 and @Pledge.LA, Lupe was able to grow her skills and surround herself with a community that helped advance her business. Now in a 10,000 square foot warehouse, Lupe has developed her own line of apparel while sharing her space with other manufacturing businesses - as well as fellow entrepreneurs in the area. From a sneaker branding business, to a planned studio and co-working space, Lupe continues to uplift her fellow entrepreneurs and her community, all while advancing her business. That’s why GTLA Apparel is today’s #lookwhowefound.

Communities of color have been historically under-represented by the traditional banking systems. Practically, that means higher interest rates on loans, or no loans at all, trapping new entrepreneurs in a cycle of poverty. By leveraging our community and partnering with @thinkwatts, @kyccla, and @solefolks, we're excited to work with #TMCCommunityCapital to provide our small businesses the resources they need to grow.

"Seeing how people who have been in this space do "Seeing how people who have been in this space do things was really helpful - it taught us how to save money and gave us a support system."*
- Leslie Jones, Co-Founder of @1010wineandevents
*
Born & raised in Inglewood, CA, Jones and her sister Leeann grew up aware of the importance of supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses run by people of color. They noticed that most food-based businesses in their area were fast casual, and wanted to bring a fully-realized dining experience to their neighborhood. The Jones sisters share a love of wine, so that was where they started.
*
They focused on supporting fellow Black-owned businesses, and source almost all their wines from Black-owned wineries. Jones and her sister participated in the @regardingherfood Academy, which helped them take their restaurant to the next level. By building out their #smallbusiness community, Jones and her sister now have the resources to keep contributing to their #Inglewood neighborhood. That's why they're today's #lookwhowefound!
