OUR PURPOSE

To provide a safe and effective alternative to heavy chemical deodorants with the hope of making a positive impact on the health of consumers. We’re all about lowering our carbon footprint limiting our plastic use by using materials made from recycled paper.

WHY WE DO IT

Owning this company is much more to me than just selling a product and making money. I use my company as a platform to advocate for safer consumer products as well as putting an end to animal testing. My company has also surprisingly allowed me to touch on much deeper topics. As someone who has on and off struggled with depression and anxiety, I have implemented a way to merge the discussion of mental health and entrepreneurship during speaking engagements. So many people come up to me after, not wanting to talk about their business venture but instead about their own mental health struggles. It can be a lonely game running your own company, but I want people to know they are not alone.

MY STORY

My search for a natural deodorant began after a close friend was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer. She was only thirty and urged me to immediately stop using deodorants/antiperspirants that contained aluminum. After years of not being able to find one that worked, I decided to make my own. At the time I was working as a celebrity and TV makeup artist between NYC and LA. All of my clients loved and expected me to use high end, luxury beauty brands. For so many years I was unaware that most of the beautifully packaged products I was using on my clients were filled with carcinogenic chemicals and tested on animals. I took inspiration from that experience and merged the idea of luxury packaging with ethically sourced, natural ingredients. Madame Lemy is Vegan and Cruelty-Free certified.

WHY WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

I love the network of women in business in LA. It has been so inspiring to witness women lifting each other up and pushing each other’s businesses forward. It is like being in this massive cool club, only it’s inclusive!

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE WE FACED

I do not have a background in business or in chemistry, so I had to work twice as hard figuring things out. I had to quickly get a DYI degree in business and chemistry from google.
